Walking at Xian Hu Park and Visiting Hong Fa Temple on Saturday

Hello, Are you interested in walking and discovering some buddism culture? Come to join the activity organised by James Baquet at Xian Hu Park this Saturday.

James Baquet is a teacher of a college at Xili and if you read Shenzhen Daily you can find him at one column called "buzzword". He will tell you everything regarding to buddism on our way in the park.

I'd like you can go then we can have fun at the park together after the walking.

Find relevant information below to know more about the activity and how you get there. Meet us at 9:00 a.m at the MEETING POINT.

MEETING POINT

We will meet at the front gate of Xianhu ("Fairy Lake") Botanical Gardens near Liantang, in eastern Luohu. It's easily found on most Shenzhen maps. PLEASE be on time, as we'll have a full
morning.

THE ROUTE

After we gather, we'll buy tickets for the park (20rmb) and take a shuttle bus (2rmb, best to have small change) to the
foot of Hongfa Temple. From there we'll catch a smaller shuttle (price
unknown, but minimal) to the Medicinal Herbs Garden. After we visit,
we'll shuttle back to the area of the Paleontological Museum. If you
wish to go inside the Museum there is a fairly hefty fee (ANOTHER 20
rmb), and all explanations are in Chinese; rather, I think, we'll enjoy
the outdoor exhibits (including petrified wood) and then walk to the
Cactus and Bonsai Gardens, ending up at the temple.

After the temple tour there are a few options:

1. Eat at the temple's veg restaurant (not the best in town, but it's THERE)
2. Walk down to the front gate, a pleasant downhill stroll
3. Take the shuttle back down (2rmb)
4. Some may wish to stay on and enjoy the park

GETTING TO XIANHU

By bus: Two buses go directly to the front gate of Xianhu Botanical Gardens:
218 from Meilin
382 across town from central Nanshan (NOT Shekou) and along Binhai/Binhe

Numerous other buses go to Liantang, the village below the park. You can change to 218 or 382 there, or take a minimum taxi ride up to the
gate, or walk about 1km up the hill:
At Luohu Waiyu Xuexiao (罗湖外语学校) bus stop: 27, 57, 113, 214, 218, 220, 311, 333, 336, 382, K113

"By Metro": You could take Line 1 to Dajuyuan and board 311 at Diwang Dasha (地王大厦) in front of Book City/MixC; or go to Guomao and
board 220 or 336 at Jinguanghua Guangchang (Kingglory Plaza 金光华广场) near
Exit B.

By taxi: Just tell the driver "Xian Hu" (sounds like "shyen who"). Or print and show this: 仙湖植物园 It's extremely well known.

In any case, the park is well east of the city; if you're coming from the
west, figure at least 30 minutes longer than it takes you to get to
Dongmen or the Luohu border. (Less by private car or taxi, of course.)

BTW the Gardens have a pretty good English site here: http://www.szbg.org/html/EN/
