No matter if you cannot speak a word of Chinese, or have years of experience – we will have an oral course for you at your level. These courses are designed to help students with the language skills they need in order to communicate clearly using Mandarin a wide variety of settings.

We have 14 different levels ranging from low level elementary to advanced.

Except for when absolutely necessary, our teachers will NOT be using any English in the classroom – the whole lesson will be taught in Chinese. Do not worry - even the lowest level of language students will able to follow along. Emersion always allows you to maximize your learning efficiency. (This is not just our opinion, but a factual truth - the tests have been done, and the statistics collected)

ELEMENTARY 4 Levels

Our Elementary courses are designed for those with little or no previous Mandarin training. Here the students will learn pinyin, tones, simple grammar, basic self introductions and daily communication skills such as asking questions, shopping, making appointments, seeing doctors, and developing personal relationships. Upon completion of these four levels you should be able to communicate independently in China for all your essential daily activities.

Level I: This course is for students with no previous experience. Here you will learn pronunciation for consonants and vowels, tones, and simple grammar. Basic daily communications will also be taught - greetings, asking questions, etc. Here we will also spend some time learning proper stroke structure of characters. (This will be more appreciated as you advance.)

Level II: Here you will learn about the things that you most readily need to communicate. Shopping, how to get around in China, how to make a phone call, exchanging money, going to the movies, the zoo, etc. Here we will take your grammar to the next level so you can speak in a bit of a more complex way. We will also work on expanding the amount of characters you can write.

Level III: Level III, as you can imagine will continue where level II left off. Here, students will learn more comprehensive daily conversations. Main topics will include inviting friends to various activities, apologizing, how to express regrets, praise, congratulations, giving advice, hobbies, weather, etc. You will continue to learn new grammar and more characters. Now you will be starting to communicate with efficiency.

             Gāngcái yínháng rénshǎo，búyǒng páiduì。

Exit:     北京人就爱吃火锅，主要是涮羊肉，天气热的时候也吃。

Level IV: Here we will begin in-depth daily conversions. Topics will include traveling, sceneries, staying in a hotel, hospitals and health, farewells, seeing friends off, and email. Grammar will be a bit more challenging here and you will get some more complex characters to add to you writing ability.

INTERMEDIATE 3 Levels

Already able to speak basic Mandarin but still want to improve? Great. Now let’s see if you are good enough to fit into one of our intermediate level courses. Here you will take the first steps needed to enable your fluency in Chinese. Learn how to have more in-depth conversations during your daily life, such as hiring part-time cleaners, working in China, , Chinese culture and so on. After this course is successfully completed, you will have a fuller understanding of Mandarin, and you should be able to have conversations on a much wider variety of topics. Don’t just tell me that Carl Jung was from Switzerland; tell me a bit about his work, and who he was.

Level I: Here students will learn how to talk about your work, your personal life, describe traffic conditions, etc. Now we will have a bit more reading in our classes to improve your overall literacy.

Level II: Here you will increase your knowledge about China. Learn how to describe your environment, Chinese myths, legends, and traditional culture and customs. Gaining such knowledge will surely impress your Chinese counterparts. Now we are learning how to integrate our lives correctly with the local community. Grammar lessons continue, as will in class reading.

Level III: Here students will learn how to talk with friends about their future plans and current working conditions. How to find a job, how to express and debate ideas about society, etc. We will also continue to learn new grammar. (Yes grammar is a constant throughout our Oral Mandarin training program.)

UPPER INTERMEDIATE 3 Levels

Here is where many students get stuck. Getting over the ‘Upper Intermediate hump’ into advanced Chinese is not easy. Not without the proper effort. Here we will give you the environment needed to get over this hump, but it is up to you to take advantage of this opportunity, and really advance! During this series, you will find that our texts are getting harder and harder. You will learn more about Chinese grammar and culture; you will also learn the differences between that of your culture and that of Chinese culture. This includes learning idiomatic Chinese, proverbs and common sayings. Now you will really be able to promote and debate your personal ideas and express yourself smoothly, naturally, and in-depth. Now you can note various differences between Carl Jung’s beliefs and that of Sigmund Freud’s.

Level I: Upper Intermediate level I begins a more in-depth study, texts are going to be longer, and grammar is now getting rather complex. You may find it hard at the beginning, but perseverance will bring a surprising amount of progress in your fight for fluency. Level I lays a solid foundation for level II. We continue to carry out our reading classes, as well as listening training.

Level II: Sentences in the texts of level II are longer and sentence structures are more complex. But you can handle it I’m sure. There will be a special grammar class to teach you how to master long sentences. Some Chinese sentences can be as long as a paragraph. We continue to carry out our reading classes, as well as listening training.

Level III: Once again long sentences in longer essays. Here students will also learn idiomatic Chinese, idioms, slang, famous quotes, etc. There is an In-depth culture study here as well.

ADVANCED 4 Levels

Advanced oral Mandarin is the hardest level in our oral mandarin courses. This is a four level program. This is also the program that you need to pass to become a Jiahua Associate. If you can pass the test to get into this class we will tell you what that means. Now that you have a high level of grammar and vocabulary, you should be able to overcome most language and cultural barriers. Read Chinese literature, and talk about a wide variety of topics extensively and accurately. Now you should be able to fully debate the differences between Jungian psychology and Dr. Freud’s psychoanalysis!

Level I: Now this is not easy! Fun though, that’s for sure. At this level you will make progress faster than ever; you can have Mandarin conversions about most topics at your will. Here students will learn in-depth about various topics. Learning through debate. The good vs. the bad and ugly. More cultural differences. Start learning from all kinds of Chinese literature, as well as carry out listening and speaking training.

Level II: These advanced levels are structured differently from our elementary and intermediate levels. Beginner and intermediate lessons are focused on dialogues. Here, our reading is more focused on literature. Advanced students will start to learn even more complex sentences structure and experience and create the most complex grammar Chinese – or any language for that matter – has to offer. Continue to carry out reading and listening training.

Level III: Here you will learn, talk about, and debate in-depth social phenomenon and personal relationships. Now you have already learned how to create long sentences with complex structure, but here we will push you that much further. After you finish this course, you will find out that your Chinese is just that much clearer, and faster.

Level IV: Congratulations! You are on the last level we offer. Once this class is finished, you will have to go out and get a life! Jokes aside, you will be extremely happy with your progress.
