Week One: Social Media

The Lesson: Social Media.
The Task: The contestants were put into two teams and had to collaboratively make a PPT(10 slides) and give a 5 - 10 minute presentation on "How Social Media can improve you company's business."
The presentations were presented at the end our Language Party to about 15 other students.

Team 1
Team Members: Chloe Lai, Rachel Lei, Sophie Cao.
Presenter: Rachel

Their Slideshow:

Team 2
Team Members: Linda Shan, Joyce Hu, Kevin Gong
Presenter: Joyce

Their Slideshow:

Absent:Marco Wu, Jacky Zhang

Both teams gave very wonderful presentations. They only had two hours to prepare and they did an excellent job. We are proud of them.

The Presenters: Rachel vs. Joyce
Rachel did a better job than Joyce in getting the audience involved in the presentation. She was asking questions, getting them to raise their hands, etc. However Rachel was a bit unsure of what she was going to say at times, but luckily he English is good enough that she was able to keep a good flow regardless. She spent a bit too much time working with Chloe and Sophie on the PPT, and not enough time rehearing what she as going to say. Joyce seem to be a bit more prepared, and was very professional. She introduced Social Media step by step, and gave good examples of each item. However she was not as interactive with the audience, and did not give any personal examples of her usage of social media.

Overall, It would be hard so say who did a better job overall. Both excellent presenters.

The Slideshows:
This was no contest. Although Team 2 had a very good outline and put things in the right order, they lacked the imagery that Team 1 had. Team 1 had great pictures and Chloe did an excellent job of laying it out. Team 1 used social media to make their presentation on social media. This fact alone proved the point that social media is needed in todays business world. (and contest world!) You can see the presentations above.

The Results:
The audience voted 8 - 2 in favor of Team 1. That means we had to kick either Linda, Kevin, or Joyce out of the contest. Joyce did a wonderful presentation that we did not want to kick her out. Then it was down to Linda and Kevin

Linda vs. Kevin
Kevin was one hour late, so that was already bad news for him. But I had high expectations of Linda - she is a lawyer and an EEIII student. During the 2 hours they were preparing the PPT, Linda was constantly at the computer working when Kevin was lounging around a bit. Kevin did bring in some good ideas, but overall Linda did do more work then Kevin. In the end, Kevin was kicked out, and Linda survived.
