You Dao Dictionary

I see a lot of students using You Dao dictionary. This dictionary is inaccurate. Some of the words are spelt wrong and some of the definitions are wrong too.  I suggest students us another dictionary. Pleco and Hanping are good for Mandarin students by they are also useful for English students.See More

Fun ways of teaching English pronunciation using Chinese

Posted on June 23, 2011 at 1:11pm 14 Comments

When I first started studying Chinese I would remember words by relating them to English words and I sometimes do the opposite when I teach English.

Who can guess what these words are in English (remember it is the sound of the word that is important not the literal translation):

  1. 你好国王
  2. 美女
  3. 笑儿
  4. 奥儿
  5. 为特儿

Music Sucks

Posted on June 22, 2011 at 12:07pm 3 Comments

I have my MP3 player on shuffle and a great song comes on just before I have something important to do. When I finish the important thing and continue listening to the song it does not sound as great or does not suit the mood I am in. This is "Murphy's Law".
