Today I accomplished a lot. I got married and became a werewolf. Then I got a phone called which forced me to stop playing video games. My friends had gone to a restaurant which had run out of tables and where invited by the owner to join him in his private office (which looked like a 财会 office) to eat and wanted me to come and meet him.

In life you sometimes come across fascinating people. One such man was my former boss who left Taiwan, I assume to escape conscription as many do, and started his life in a new country living out of a shipping container. He went on to become a millionaire and now spends his retirement years in Singapore, still as humble as when I first met him.

Another person who I will talk about for years to come is Amo. Amo was born in Shui Wei – grew up in Hong Kong and went to university in Taiwan. He is a devout buddhist and vegitarian, but he light heartedly jokes that he still drinks chicken soup. Together with his wife he has travelled the world and for every country they have visited they have put together photo albums so as to share their experiences with others. You can tell by the way they talk about life and food that they understand worldly things, yet they are still humble, warm and friendly.

Congee Amos has gotten considerable media coverage by local newspapers and with good reason. This restaurant was able to turn foods which where not personally palatable into enjoyable delights.

Congee, chinese rice porridge, is the speciality at Amo’s. They serve different kinds and it is noteworthy that they don’t just add boiling water to the rice, but instead bring the cold water and rice to boil which makes a significant difference to the taste.

Pumpkin

My favorite dish on the menu is the pumpkin. As Amo’s wife tells, they travel far to get the best ingredients for their dishes, and it shows.

Chang Fen

Chang Fen

Chang Fen is a very Guang Dong dish, also a little bit bland. But at Amo’s it is flavorful.

Chicken and pineapple

Chicken and pineapple

The chicken and pineapple, which I thought to be a taiwanese dish is amazing too.

If you are in the area and looking for a good sitdown restaurant, look no further.
